Job Summary
 

Mainstream is committed to providing Person Centred Supports to the people with a developmental difference or dual diagnosis.  A person centered approach recognizes the right of individuals to make informed choices and take responsibility for those choices and related risks.  It builds on the strengths, gifts, talents, skills, and contributions of the individual and those who know and care about the person. 

 

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) in this position will provide individualized support, in a manner consistent with Mainstream’s philosophies and values. The DSP will provide a person centered approach finding the best supports for people which includes:

·        Assisting  people to find a valuable place in his/her community

·        Providing the supports people need to be successful with day to day living

·        Empowering people to recognize and reach personal goals

·        Creating and finding new opportunities for people so that they are able to fully understand their options

·        Participation in Person Centred Planning with people supported

 

To provide best support to people the successful candidate must develop strong, respectful and positive relationships with the persons supported, family members, a broad range of community organizations, as well as all Mainstream employees.

  

Qualifications & Key Requirements:

  

   ·         College Diploma (Social Service Worker or Educational Assistant – Special Needs support Diploma, Developmental Services Worker 2-year diploma, or related degree) OR university degree (Bachelor of Applied Science in Community Social Services, or related degree)

·         Must have a valid Driver’s License (G) and a reliable vehicle; Auto Insurance (with $1,000,000 liability coverage and permission to carry non-paying passengers)

·         Must have a police clearance (with vulnerable sector screening)

·         Must have a valid First Aid, CPR

·         Bi-lingual in both French and English is an asset 

·         Be available to work awake overnight shifts

·         Be available to work one weekend per pay period if required

·         Must be available to work 3 overnight awake shifts per pay period

·         Be able to lift up to 30 lbs.

·         Training in Person Centred Thinking is an asset 

·         Training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset 

·         Minimum one year working with individuals with developmental disabilities OR minimum one year working in a related field

Hours per week: 35

Pay Range: $24.03-$24.55
